There are currently NO OTHER 19TH-CENTURY EDITIONS OF THIS BOOK FOR SALE ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. I accord my customers the highest respect; please extend me the same courtesy when submitting an offer. Heres a rare opportunity to get your own original 1883 edition of the AMERICAN FARM AND HOME CYCLOPEDIA, one of the biggest and best farming and household guides published during the Victorian era — and also one of the most difficult books of this type to find from that era. At this time, there are no other original 19th-century editions of this book available anywhere in the world. The 19th-century family farm was one of Americas last great bastions of self-reliance. As more and more people abandoned their rural roots and went off to work for factory wages in company-owned towns, the farm stood as a symbol of American self-sufficiency. Situated miles away from town centers, the farmer and his family had only themselves to depend on, through good times and bad. THE AMERICAN FARM AND HOME CYCLOPEDIA was published to meet every need and contingency of life on the farm, from agriculture, husbandry and farm architecture, to housekeeping, cooking, medical care, sports and pastimes. A handy go-to guide for every situation, happenstance, how-to or emergency. Fully illustrated with 1500 illustrations prepared especially for this work. Think of it as your great-great-grandfathers Google: A single, reliable, 19th-century resource granting easy access to reams and reams of useful and valuable period information about farming and household industry. It can tell you how to efficiently and productively run a farm, how to raise crops and livestock, how to build your own Victorian farmhouse, barns and other buildings, and how to be healthy, wealthy and wise all your life. Every portion of the work has been prepared expressly for it, and much of it has never been published in any form before. Most of the cuts are from original designs, drawn and engraved for it. A very large portion of it has been obtained at first hands of writers of experience and practical knowledge, of both sexes, and every department has been submitted to persons of known intelligence, integrity and familiarity with the matters treated, to make sure of as complete accuracy as possible. The illustrations have been made a marked feature of the work, partly because it enhances the interest of any book, even to a professional student, but chiefly because they explain many things better than any verbal description. All but very few have been designed by artists engaged expressly for this work. For your convenience, I have condensed the Contents into a more manageable format below, providing extra detail about chapters I found most interesting. Ive also included a great many photos of the book and its handsome illustrations. I hope youll take a few moments to have a look.
