This is a beautiful English Victorian box. Made in the Tunbridge style, this box features gorgeous wide inlaid bands. The bands not only cover the lid, but run down the front as well. There is a delicately inlaid diamond shaped cartouche on the lid and a similar escutcheon around the keyhole. I believe the main wood is walnut. This is a very attractive box that would serve well for jewelry, keepsakes or as an accent to an antique table or piece of case furniture. There is slight damage around the keyhole. There is a lock but no key. There is a slight repair to one of the tiny segments of inlay in the bands, but the rest are original and the bands appear to be wholly intact. The quality of the box is shown by its hardware, which includes stop hinges. It is also reflected in the curved lid, which is a higher level of craftsmanship than a flat lid. The box has been relined with a fabric and tiny felt bumpers have been added to the bottom to prevent scratching on wood furniture. This box measures 9 1/2 inches wide, 7 inches deep and 5 inches high. I try to describe my items accurately and include any material flaws in the description and photos. Please contact me first for a resolution of any problem rather than merely leaving unfavorable feedback. Most of my packing boxes and packing materials are recycled. All of my items are antique or vintage and show some signs of prior use. Anything significant is observable in the photos 68-or described or both. Not every surface imperfection, bump or minor scratch is noted or can been seen in photographs, however. The item “Antique English Victorian inlaid box” is in sale since Friday, November 27, 2020.
