This 1846 edition of DOMESTIC COOKERY was published in London. At the age of 60, Mrs. Rundell published a collection of favorite recipes and household hints she had used or invented over the years. More than 900 of these recipes and receipts are found in A NEW SYSTEM OF DOMESTIC COOKERY. A NEW SYSTEM OF DOMESTIC COOKERY includes literally hundreds of cooking recipes meats and vegetables, fish and game, poultry, breads and pastries, puddings, soups and gravies, and much more — some household receipts and even instructions and practical advice for those interested in the home-brewing of beer, ales and wines. Antique English Victorian Rosewood Upholstered Chaise Longue Sofa Couch
Antique English Victorian Rosewood Upholstered Chaise Longue Sofa Couch (Circa 1850). Attractive upswept left-hand arm with scroll carving. Grey dralon buttoned upholstery. Sweeping upholstered backrest with scroll carved arm. Sprung stuff-over seat design. Floral carved cartouche (frieze centre). Fine quality floral carved scroll legs. Lovely colour & patination. The chaise features (when facing) a finely carved scroll end left hand arm, below an upholstered arm, with a rising deep buttoned back, which downward sweeping back, terminating against a finely carved rosewood frame end. The chaise stands on superbly carved scroll legs and castors, decorated with floral and shell carved detail, supplemented by a decorative central carved floral cartouche, along a natural moulding around the chaise frame. Upholstered in a grey dralon upholstery, with a stuff-over sprung seat, the chaise would benefit from being re-upholstered as the existing upholstery is tired, therefore it would make an ideal re-upholstery project. The underside of the chaise has been traditionally upholstered in hessian backing material and features the two original steel structural support bars. This chaise frame features a rich dark brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the living room or bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. External height = 89.5cm or 35¼ or 1ft 11¼ External width = 183cm or 72 or 6ft External depth = 90cm or 35½ or 2ft 11½ Seat height = 46cm or 18 or 1ft 6 Seat width = 151cm or 59½ or 4ft 11½ Seat depth = 55.5cm or 21 or 1ft 9. Long arm height = 17.5cm or 6. Short arm height = 18.5cm or 7¼. Back height = 50cm or 19 or 1ft 7. The chaise would benefit from being re-upholstered as the existing upholstery is worn, tired and missing its braiding, therefore it would make an ideal re-upholstery project. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the rosewood frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The rosewood frame has been wax-polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. There are no missing carvings or mouldings to the frame. The underside of the chaise retains its two original steel structural support bars. There is some natural play to the frame, which would require tightening, if the chaise were to be re-upholstered (this should be done once the upholstery has been stripped off, prior to it being re-upholstered a standard part of the process when reupholstering furniture). The chaise stands on steel castors, which are in generally good condition given their age.
