A copper preserves pan made in the mid 19th century with a makers mark showing a plumed horses head, which is a mark that is unknown to me. It is obviously a very fine piece of kitchen equipment that has a weight of just over 8 lbs and is undamaged with a beautiful colour to the old copper. The diameter of the bowl is 15 inches and is 5 inches deep giving it the promise of being able to be used as a fish poacher or very many other purposes as well. It is equipped with massive brass handles that are big enough to take the whole of a hand and are firmly fitted with large copper rivets. Surrounding the rim, the bowl has a thick rolled rim, rolled over an iron hoop for added strength. Its size and quality suggest that it was originally based in a large English country home where the pastry cook would have needed large quantities of fruit for her pies and an equally sized, fired range to rest it. The item “HUGE VICTORIAN 19th century DEEP ENGLISH ANTIQUE COPPER PRESERVES PAN” is in sale since Thursday, October 31, 2019. This item is in the category “Antiques\Metalware\Copper”.
