HUGE VICTORIAN 19th century DEEP ENGLISH ANTIQUE COPPER PRESERVES PAN
A copper preserves pan made in the mid 19th century with a makers mark showing a plumed horses head, which is a mark that is unknown to me. It is obviously a very fine piece of kitchen equipment that has a weight of just over 8 lbs and is undamaged with a beautiful colour to the old copper. The diameter of the bowl is 15 inches and is 5 inches deep giving it the promise of being able to be used as a fish poacher or very many other purposes as well. It is equipped with massive brass handles that are big enough to take the whole of a hand and are firmly fitted with large copper rivets. Surrounding the rim, the bowl has a thick rolled rim, rolled over an iron hoop for added strength. Its size and quality suggest that it was originally based in a large English country home where the pastry cook would have needed large quantities of fruit for her pies and an equally sized, fired range to rest it.
