Rare Antique Victorian 18ct Gold English Pocket Watch, Dent Cockspur St. London
ANTIQUE VICTORIAN, 18CT GOLD ENGLISH POCKET WATCH by DENT COCKSPUR ST. A very good quality. Antique, Victorian 18CT Gold English Pocket Watch by a listed maker; Dent of Cockspur Street, London and dating from c1853. The firm Dent is extremely highly regarded. It was established in 1814 by Edward J Dent. The were watch, chronometer and clock makers, supplying the Royal Navy and holding the Royal Warrant as suppliers to Queen Victoria. The great clock for the Houses of Parliament (Big Ben) was made by Dent, the contract being awarded to Dent in 1852. The watch is an good example, in very good overall condition and in working order. The English, decorative, 18 carat gold case is hallmarked with the case maker’s mark “CR”, the “crown and “18” for 18 carat gold, the Leopard’s Head London town mark and date letter “S for 1853/54. The inner cuvette similarly marked. The case also stamped with the serial number 16826 to match the movement proving both are original and have been together since new. The English Lever movement is signed by the maker Dent, 33 & 34 Cockspur St. London, Maker to the Queen and serial number 16826. The watch is key wound and set. The dial is in very good condition. It has the hours in roman numerals. The glass does fit but can pop out, for example when you open the front cover with a case opener, it could be glued but I prefer to leave it. The watch measures 43mm in diameter (across the case). The weight is 52.4g. The watch comes complete with fitted presentation case/box and key. A good example of a Victorian English Pocket Watch by a very highly regarded maker. Thank you for viewing this listing from.
