Huge 19th Century English Copper Kettle’5′ Capacity Dovetailed w/ Acorn Finial. This huge mid-19th century English copper and brass kettle with gooseneck spout is dovetailed and has an acorn finial. It measures approximately 16-3/4 long from spout tip to backside of the kettle. It stands approximately 14-3/4 high to the top of the handle. The body of the kettle has a shoulder diameter of approximately 11″ tapering down to a base measuring approximately 8-1/2″. It is in absolutely beautiful estate condition with NO breaks, NO cracks, NO repairs, NO replacements, and NO restorations. It shows only subtle soft dings and uniform heat wear, all shown in the photos. The interior shows sediment from normal use, as shown in the photo. It shows a beautiful polished uniform shine. All components are in solid, original working order. The backside handle is correctly marked with the large’5′ capacity for either liters or quarts. Such a cutie pie. This stick pin is an original victorian era pin. It is crafted from 14K yellow gold with enamel and round cut diamond eyes. The bulldog is finely detailed in the color and hand painting of the enamel work. The enamel is worn is spots, but remains in good condition. The eyes are tiny diamonds. Up for sale is this antique 1848 bound volume of Graham’s Magazine. This volume contains the first printings of the 10th, 11th, and 12th installments of Edgar Allan Poe’s Marginalia. It has all of. The issues for 1848 and is nicely illustrated with 5 hand colored fashion plates and approximately 27 black and white engravings. It lacks just a few of the plates called for. The book is overall in good- condition with some signs of wear and age. The covers have a bit of scuffing and wear with some corner wear and edge wear. There is some partial cracking to the joints (especially to the upper portion of the back joint), but the binding of the book is still good and sound. The front endpapers have a little damage to the paper near the hinge. The interior is toned from age with foxing through out and some scattered light soiling & grubbiness. That there may be the very occasional page with some kind of other minor imperfection such as a creased page corner, tiny chip or tear, etc. Generally though, it’s a decent copy. Measures approximately 10 1/8 inches by 6 3/8 inches. Please look at all of the photos to further note the condition. A striking late Victorian back comb in black celluloid with French Jet adornment. CONDITION: good vintage condition. SIZE: 4¼ ins h x 5 ins w (11 x 13 cm). APPROXIMATE DATE: 1880s – 1900. MATERIALS: celluloid, French jet. Here is a large and impressive Victorian mourning hair comb which is made as a back comb. The foundation is of glossy black celluloid adorned with numerous pieces of faceted French jet. French jet is a glittering form of black glass which has nothing to do with France, but was produced mainly in Bohemia, now part of modern Czechoslovakia, in the late 19. Century when it was extremely popular for jewellery making. A back comb is a type of hair accessory specifically designed to be worn at the rear of the hairdressing, above, below or within the chignon. It is usually identified by a deep curve made to fit the skull. These combs are usually wider than they are high and often have an elaborate heading or top decorated in some way. This comb shows jet pieces of various shapes and sizes, which is usually regarded as indicating a quality piece. The collage photograph shows several illustrations taken from contemporary sources and depicts ornaments and costume intended to be worn by those in mourning. The importance of Victorian mourning etiquette upon the production of jewellery and personal ornaments was very marked. This etiquette decreed that in deep mourning, the widow and close relative of the deceased must dress in plain dark garments with a long veil hanging from the bonnet. The only ornaments allowed to be worn at this time were those of jet, which is a natural material found in Whitby, a small town on the East coast of the UK. In order to extend the supply of jet when it became exhausted, various other materials were employed. One of these was French jet.
