For sale is a very fine example of a victorian autograph book signed and dated in 1881. An autograph book can be likened to a modern-day yearbook where friends, colleagues and family members sign their names and write memorable comments to the owner. This book is filled from front to back with comments written in cursive hand-writing. (There are some blank pages). You can find advice, poems, and common sayings of the age. This book has graphics of an ocean theme with very classical illustrations scattered throughout, as you can see. Additionally, dates of the 1880’s are noted frequently. This book belonged to someone in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a location infamous for the catastrophic Johnstown flood of 1889. Multiple times “East Conemaugh” is noted, a part of Johnstown. It is a strange feeling to read the pages and know what lay in the future. This piece is something from my personal collection that I’ve decided to pass around the classroom of the world. It measures approximately 6″ by 4″. Please check out my other antique and collectible listings. If you enjoy items I have listed, please follow my store. We update listings almost daily.
