Antique roll top, dome breakfast server, manufactured by Elkington & Company, one of the most important names in English silver and silver plate. Organized in 1836, Birmingham, England as a company of silver smiths. In 1838 they discovered and patented the process of electroplating one metal on top of another surface. The names is synonymous with Christopher Dresser, Aesthetic Movement. Elkington used a letter dating system. The figural roll top breakfast server is marked with the Elkington & Co. Marks along with the letter J, used 4 times during production. Once in 1895, as is on the base of the server and a second time in 1921, located within a quatrefoil, and again in 1945 in a shield and 1970 in a circle.. The server features figural lion faces on each of the legs and sawtooth beaded trim around the rim.
