A quality English Staunton pattern turned and carved bone chess set, circa 1890. One side natural and the other side stained cochineal red. The design of the knights, queens and kings are similar in style to English makers Ayres and the British Chess Company. Good overall condition consistent with age and use, faded red color, nicks to base of pawns, one red bishop top ball missing, complete 32, made from polished and finished cattle bone, king height 3 1/4 inches. Includes a period stamped Jaques & Son leather folding chess board, black and creme with1.75 playing squares. Chessboard in good overall condition, shows use, one square with loss of leather.
