ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ENGLISH RED & WHITE HARDSTONE CAMEO RING DANCING LADY c1898
A superb quality antique hardstone cameo ring dating from the late Victorian period. A beautiful dancing lady is hand carved into a single piece of red and white banded agate, with life and character, she’s a tender reminder to enjoy the finer things in life. Hardstone is a particularly challenging material to carve – especially at this tiny scale – as it’s brittle and hard, one slip and the piece is ruined. Consequently only master artisans successfully work with it. The agate is gently translucent, making it glow from within at certain angles and endowing it with a fascinating, naturalistic feel. She’s set into a fabulous quality, solid 9 carat gold ring with shaped, raised head embellished with superb pre-Art Deco stepped shoulders and a chunky gold band. It bears an unusual Chester hallmark for 1898, and the maker’s mark AJS for Arthur Johnson Smith of Frederick Street, Birmingham and is in fantastic original condition throughout, with no loss or damage. It’s a size 6.25 resizeable, and the head is a dainty 12 x 7 mm. What’s more, I offer layaway deals so there’s no need to let any of my listings slip through your fingers – just ask! For security all items are stored in a bank’s safe deposit box and sent fully insured for peace of mind.
