Up for sale is this rare antique copy of the The Gift for 1840. It contains the first printing of Edgar Allan Poe’s, William Wilson. The book also contains other pieces of literature from a variety of different authors. It is illustrated with an engraved title page and 8 other black and white engravings. It is overall in good condition with some signs of wear and age. The covers have some mild wear with a little loss to the leather at the extremities of the spine and a little bit of corner wear and edge wear. There is about an inch and half long crack towards the lower portion of the front outer leather joint and a little bit of bowing to the boards. The binding of the book is good and sound. All of the page edges are gold gilt. The interior is lightly toned from age with some foxing. There is a period name inscription to the front blank flyleaf. Along with that there may be the very occasional page with some kind of other minor imperfection such as a small chip or tear, creased page corner, light bit of soiling or grubbiness, etc. Generally though, it’s a good copy. The book measures approximately 7 1/2 inches by 5 inches. Please look at all of the photos to further note the condition.
