The ring is a superb quality, very finely made seven-stone piece in solid 18 carat gold throughout, with wonderfully tapering shoulders that perfectly join with its thick gold band. Dating from around 1870, it retains a segment of its original London hallmark – the rest having been lost to an old sizing. The stones vary between VS and I clarity and are around J/K colour overall. My favourite aspect of this ring apart from the character and authenticity of the stones, is how perfectly finished it is all around – from the stones’ settings to the basket sides, all the way to the back of the head where superbly crafted window backs are finished with the same high standard, the same care and the same sense of style and beauty. It’s a size 5.5 resizable, weighs in at 3.7 grams and measures 6 mm across the head. It’s in wonderful, perfectly wearable antique condition, with light wear to the gold but no loss or damage.
