Up for sale is this rather rare antique Victorian Children’s pop-up book, Happy Families and Their Tales: A. Volume of Pictures and Stories of Domestic Pets. The book is overall in good condition with some signs of wear and age. It is undated, but is circa the late 1800’s or the very early 1900’s. The book is illustrated with 5 nice lithograph pop-up scenes. The pop-up scenes are in generally good condition with some wear. All of the pop-scenes have some crease lines to the floor corners. There is a repair with acid free archival tape on the backside of the lady’s arm in the interior barn scene. In that same scene, the cow is missing his tail. In the scene with the bunnies, the tip of a bunny’s ear has been reattached with acid free archival tape. One of the tabs in the goat scene has been repaired with card stock. There are some figures with some crease lines and there may be a few other figures missing a tiny appendage. Generally though, the scenes display nicely. The covers of the book have some moderate soiling and wear with some loss to the paper paste-down, especially towards the bottom corner of the front cover near the spine. The boards have some corner wear and edge wear. There are some closed splits to the fabric on the spine near the extremities. The interior hinges are cracked, but the binding is still sound. One text page has been neatly re-adhered to the binding and another is partially detached about halfway up the length of the book. There is a gift inscription in fountain pen to the front free endpaper. The back endpapers have some light soiling. There is about an inch and half tear to the bottom of the title page near the gutter and about 2 or 3 text pages with a small tear about an inch in length. Besides that, the interior is toned from age but is generally clean with just the occasional light bit of soiling/grubbiness. The book measures approximately 9 1/8 inches by 11 1/4 inches. Please look at all the photos closely to further note the condition.
