This is a Magnificent Antique Victorian 1880s English Leather Brass Dog Collar. These items are an eclectic mix including gold and sterling jewelry, and many unique, and in some cases, one of a kind items, in wood, brass, and iron, and other materials as well. The information we received was that the collar was circa 1880s and for a very large breed such as a Bull Mastiff or simlar. The brass plaque has deeply cut intaglio engraving reading M. Bakewell, England in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, and also within the Peak District National Park. A wealth of information on ths area can be easily found online. This exceptional collar is made from very heavy, lined leather, 5/16″ for about two thirds of its length, and, of necessity, 3/16″ unlined leather for the rest of the length to accomodate fastening the buckle. The collar is 2 1/4″ wide and about 23 3/4″ in overall length. There are three holes to adjust the fit. The are nearly but not exactly equally spaced. I would estimate the three collar circumferences at about 20″, 18 1/2″ and 17 1/2. The very heavy hardware appears to be all solid brass. The buckle is 2 3/4 wide. On either side of the buckle is a 4 x 3 matrix of heavy brass studs. The top and bottom rows have a rounded profile, and the center row has a conical / egg shaped profile as seen. There is one-of-a-kind, and then there is one-of-a-kind. I truly believe this wonderful collar is of the second type. I don’t really know what else to say about the collar; I think the photos really speak for themselves! Given the attributed age, and the fact that this is a dog collar, the collar is in fairly amazing condition with a beautiful patina to both the leather and the brass. There are the following conditions issues to note. There are some stress cracks on both sides of the engraved brass plaque as seen in a closeup photo, circled in green to call them to your attention. There are some other lesser stress cracks, and one very minor scuff on the leather elsewhere as seen. The issues are pretty minor and do not affect the structural integrity of the collar. We will 100% guarantee your satisfaction with the condition of the collar subject to your review of the photos. International Buyers Please Note. Doing that is against U.
