A superb, unique Victorian period mourning locket ring – set with seed pearls and a stunning splash of textured blue enamelling. In solid 9 carat pale rose gold, its wide band tapers strongly to its deeply rounded, circular head. With fine millegrain edging, a row of lustrous seed pearls surrounds a locket compartment, glazed with a single piece, hand cut, shaped and polished genuine natural rock crystal – itself set with a gold frame centred with a gold seed pearl-set flower device with a royal blue vitreous enamel backing. This creates this never-before-seen’disc’ type locket, with floating central flower boss. The back of the head is very finely engraved’PL Phillips Obit 2nd July 1869′. The locket will originally have held a hair memento, and is currently empty. It can be accessed by a good jeweller or a handy person. It’s a size 8 and can be resized a little if needed. It’s in surprisingly excellent condition throughout, with only the lightest signs of wear / age to the pearls, rock crystal and enamel. It weighs 5.4 grams and measures 19 mm across the head. A totally unique piece that’s not only incredibly collectable, but very attractive to wear as well.
